U.S. Appropriates $17.5 million for reconstruction in northern Uganda
As part of the supplemental appropriations bill that was passed by Congress and signed by President Bush last week, $17.5 million in new money has been designated for reconstruction efforts in northern Uganda.
This is something we've been pushing Congress on for a very long time, and was one of our three "asks" at this year's Lobby Day. The fact that this money made it through a very long, drawn out, and contentious budget process is a testament to the fact that this issue is increasing in importance and prioritization for our leaders and to the efforts of people across the country who are making that happen.
Any peace agreement signed in northern Uganda won't last without the necessary funds to put it into practice and this development is a great sign that our leaders understand that.
Way to go everyone!
