Keeping up with the headlines: Northern leaders call on Ugandan government and LRA to “pursue path of peace”
A group of leaders from northern Uganda have issued a communiqué
calling on the Ugandan government and LRA to “pursue the path of peace”
despite recent setbacks in the peace process. The leaders issued the
communiqué from Nabanga in southern Sudan, where they waited unsuccessfully
for several days last week to meet with LRA chief Joseph Kony. The
leaders also expressed their “concern and displeasure” with Kony for
calling the meeting and then failing to attend. The communiqué states
that a return to war would be “counterproductive” and urges continued
efforts to persuade Kony to sign the completed Final Peace Agreement.
